A Tower of Knowledge (adcovtle: tordo) (peküzhí Nakiwá: ki todo) is a type of post-secondary educational institution originating in Covtle. While primarily known for teaching gemstone magic, they also normally offer classes in other subjects such as history, politics, and languages.

History

The first Tower of Knowledge was ordered to be constructed by Oneaþ. It opened in 37, and was primarily a library rather than an educational institution. While teaching did take place there, it was done by private individuals with no official connection to the Tower of Knowledge.

This arrangement of informal teaching continued well past the destruction of Lajavlugli and was the original model adopted at the new Tower of Knowledge in Glisng. However, in 972, the government of King Ðlato required that people teaching at the Tower of Knowledge be approved by the government. While this was intended as a measure of political control, it led to greater government involvement in education generally. In 1068, the administration of the Tower of Knowledge was expanded from simply protecting the valuable books to also selecting instructors and arranging payment to them.

In 1108, La njomê asd la tsênat asd la tordosc dosc (modern adcovtle: Lañome ad laþenat ad latordo do) (English: The Royal Group for a second Tower of Knowledge) was formed. After 9 years of deliberations, they settled on Mangátle as the site for the second Tower of Knowledge. Latordo ad Mangátle (English: University of Mangátle) began accepting students for the first time in 1125.

Certificates of completion of study of subject began to be issued in the 1400s, first at Latordo ad Glisng and later at Latordo ad Mangátle. By the 1600s, these had evolved into certificates of completion of all subjects, rather than simply mastery of a single subject.

In the 1700s, the Towers of Knowledge in both Glisng and Mangátle began to offer more classes in topics other than gemstone magic. Latordo ad Mangátle in particular expanded its offerings, and in 1801 split the certificates into the recognisably modern topics of gemstone magic, history, languages, and politics. Latordo ad Glisng followed in 1855, with the topics of gemstone magic, history, languages, politics, and law.

The late 1800s saw an increase in the number of Towers of Knowledge, with new Towers opening in Vlojtum and Wimþac. In 1961, si Shawéna zho ki todo (English: Tower of Knowledge of si Shawéna) opened in si Shawéna, zhi Nakiwá. It was the first Tower of Knowledge outside Covtle. It was also the first to offer certificates in artistic areas. Latordo ad Mangátle added artistic certificates in 1975, while Latordo ad Glisng still does not offer artistic certificates.

In 2000, the existing education institutions of Agrasichas were combined into Latordo ad Agrasichas (English: Tower of Knowledge of Agrasichas). This was the first Tower of Knowledge in Grèsent.
