This article is about the country in Tiðloten. For the official and majority language of the country, see Fole Enkan (language).
Fole Enkan is an independent country in western Tiðloten. Geographically it stretches from the marshes at the Fole Delta in the west to the beginning of the Tyakte desert in the east, and from the Šelva rise in the south to the Kapta mountains (known as the Wiþi mountains in Covtle) in the north. Politically, it is composed of a nominally democratic republic, which has been controlled by Ytoktya in an effectively single-party state once more since 2074, with a central government in Dyaša.
History
For history prior to establishment of the Republic, see History of the Empire of Enkan.
Year of Revolution
On 11 atawiþi 1995, members of the Dyaša Ytoktya (English: Dyaša People) successfully assassinated Emperor Tyankanošilek 8 and proclaimed themselves liberators of the city. A civil war quickly began between the Ytoktya and the Imperial forces. However, the Imperial forces are believed to have significantly overestimated the numbers of the Ytoktya, and as the fighting continued, alternative claimants to the throne undermined unity in the Imperial forces. The Ytoaktya controlled Fole Enkan by the end of the year.
Šelva Enkan, however, had little presence of the Ytoktya. The government in Zemhhuno declared independence of Šelva Enkan on 2 gemuglu 1995.
War with Šelva Enkan and tightened control
Fole Enkan declared war on the newly independent Šelva Enkan on 2 atawiþi 1996. However, they struggled to muster supplies, and in particular to conscript troops. After multiple failed attempts to take Femrel and Šalva, on 5 baðatrepavi 1996 they signed a ceasefire brokered by Dese Voldo, but did not officially sign a peace treaty. Scholars have debated the interpretation of this following the breakup of Šelva Enkan, however hostilities are yet to resume.
After the war, the governing Ytoktya tightened control of Fole Enkan. Sources vary on what strategies were used, however, by the end of 1997 loyalty was considered to be "very high" according to official reports. The Wiþi empire established Onþod in 1999 due to stated "concerns about developments in Fole Enkan".
Electricity and dragon capture
From 1999 to 2015, the Ytoktya ordered the construction of various devices for electrification of major industries, such as steel production. However, when hydro power on the Fole river failed to provide enough energy, a system of extracting energy in the form of magic from dragons was developed. This system of dragon capture and energy extraction is controversial, due to its treatment of dragons being described as "torturous" and due to the death of dragons. The dragons declared an ongoing war with Fole Enkan in 2015. However, Fole Enkan continued to electrify using dragon energy as a source. By 2023, most homes in Fole Enkan had electrical connections, plus all major industries and the newly constructed railways.
The Zankištya project and the Great War
During the later 2030s and 2040s, a secret project to build a flying machine began in Zankištya. In addition, a conventional military buildup also began by 2041, although potentially beforehand. These projects remained secret, until in 2052 Fole Enkan launched a full invasion of Senhyamdil. Due to a treaty Senhyamdil had with the Wiþi empire, this led to the beginning of The Great War.
During the Great War, Fole Enkan initially began with a large advantage due to the flying machine. They successfully took Senhyamdil, followed by Lagon. Together with their alliance with Halku, this allowed them to effectively control the entirety of inner Šelva. They also made large inroads into the Wiþi empire, gaining control of the desert and forcing Wiþi troops back as far as Trèsicha.
However, the tide began to turn on Fole Enkan as the Laþmagar ad Wiþi began to use flying carpets from Quərfi to regain control of the air. Despite several air attacks into Covtle, most notably the bombing of Glisng, the armies of Fole Enkan were in retreat by 2057, and the combination of dragon attacks, the advancing Wiþi forces, and internal resistance, Fole Enkan quickly lost control of the conflict and was forced into an unconditional surrender by 2059.
Restructuring and famine
The occupying Wiþi forces attempted to restructure the government of Fole Enkan. They considered but opted against reinstalling the Empire of Enkan, due to concerns about expansionism. Instead, they created a democratic republic with a parliamentary system similar to their own, without the monarchy. They intentionally weakened the central government, and massively downsized the armed forces.
The installed government functioned poorly from the withdrawal of the Wiþi forces in 2063. Factional infighting parlilysed the government, while a massive famine occurred from 2064. By the end of the 2060s, the Yktotya were the largest political party in Fole Enkan once more, largely due to a promise to redistribute wealth and food. By 2074, Fole Enkan was once again an effectively one-party republic.
Recent history
Since 2071, Fole Enkan has focused more on industrial development rather than strength of armed forces, although exact statistics about military development remain unclear. The war with the dragons is the main exception, with Fole Enkan once again using captured dragons to power their electricity grid.
Geography
Mostly open agricultural fields, with pockets of forests in the mountains and along the northwest coast. The roughly east-west Kapta mountains (known as the Wiþi mountains in Covtle) define the northern border. The Fole river flows through the centre of Fole Enkan, from the eastern edge to the Enkan ocean.
Climate
Mostly hot-summer mediterranean (Csa), with warm-summer mediterranean (Csb) along the coast. Land to the east of Dyaša has an arid climate.
Languages
Fole Enkan is spoken throughout. Classical Fole Enkan, once a popular language among aristocrats and the Universal Temple, is now banned in Fole Enkan.
